Each source format carries its own color model, compression scheme, and metadata, so the converter must normalize them into a coherent PDF content stream. The resulting document conforms to ISO 32000 and behaves as a fixed-layout container that any PDF reader can open without additional codecs.
Internally, a PDF treats each image as an XObject referenced from a page content stream. The converter chooses an appropriate filter for each XObject: DCTDecode for JPEG sources (which can be embedded byte-for-byte without re-encoding), and lossless FlateDecode for PNG, BMP, TIFF, and WebP sources. Passing JPEGs through directly preserves their original quality and keeps that part of the output close to the size of the inputs.

Understanding your conversion options
Supported Inputs
File Studio accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, and BMP. Standard JPEGs are passed through unchanged, while other formats are stored with lossless FlateDecode compression. Transparent areas are flattened onto white. HEIC, GIF, and other formats need converting to JPG or PNG first.
Page Size Strategy
Choose a uniform page size (A4, Letter, or A3) or Fit image, where each page matches its image. Uniform sizes are best for printed reports, while Fit image is best for archival and borderless viewing. With a uniform size, orientation can be Auto, Portrait, or Landscape, and margins can be None, Small, or Large.
Image Order and Sorting
Images become pages in the order shown in the list. Use the move up and move down buttons to reorder them, and remove any you do not need, before creating the PDF.
Recompression Quality
File Studio never applies lossy recompression when building the PDF: JPEGs are embedded as-is and other formats are stored losslessly. To shrink a large photo PDF, compress or convert the images to JPG first, at a quality between 80 and 90 for visually lossless results.
Searchable Text
Pages are images, so text in them is not searchable or selectable. File Studio does not perform OCR; if you need searchable text, run the finished PDF through a dedicated OCR tool.

For legal and insurance evidence packages, image bundles are typically delivered as PDF/A-2 (ISO 19005-2) so they can be preserved unchanged for the duration of a case file. Each image should retain its original capture metadata in XMP form, and the PDF should include a manifest page listing the source filenames, hashes, and capture timestamps for chain-of-custody verification.
In construction, real estate, and field inspection workflows, the standard practice is to embed GPS coordinates from EXIF data into the PDF as either visible captions or hidden metadata. Many field service platforms expect inspection PDFs to be under 10 MB per report, which often requires moderate JPEG compression (quality 80) and a maximum long-edge resolution of 2048 pixels per image.
For e-commerce product catalogs and supplier documentation, image-to-PDF output should preserve color accuracy by tagging each embedded image with its source ICC profile (sRGB for web photos, Adobe RGB for studio photography, CMYK for print-ready assets). Without profile tags, downstream viewers may shift colors, which is unacceptable for textile, paint, and cosmetic product documentation.
Troubleshooting
Common issues and how to fix them
Pages appear in the wrong order→
Pages follow the order of the image list. Check the list before creating the PDF and use the move up and move down buttons to fix the order, since file pickers may sort names like IMG_2.jpg and IMG_10.jpg unexpectedly.
HEIC files fail to convert→
File Studio does not support HEIC input. Export the photos as JPEG first (for example, from Photos or Preview on a Mac, or set your iPhone camera to Most Compatible), then add them.
Output PDF is huge despite small inputs→
File Studio passes JPEGs through unchanged and never upscales, so a large PDF usually comes from PNG, TIFF, or BMP photos stored losslessly. Convert those photos to JPG before creating the PDF for a much smaller file.
Mixed orientations create rotated pages→
EXIF orientation tags from phone cameras are often ignored by basic converters. File Studio applies them automatically, so portrait and landscape images are placed with the intended orientation. If a page is still sideways, fix it with Rotate Pages afterward.
