Privacy Policy
File Studio Privacy Policy
Thanks for using File Studio. We build tools for secure, local file manipulation, especially documents and images. This Privacy Policy explains what we do (and don't do) with your data.
Quick Summary
- Local by default. Your files are processed on your device. We don't upload, view, or store your files on our servers.
- Minimal data. We collect only what's needed to process purchases, provide licensing, optional diagnostics, and support.
- No sale of data. We never sell your personal information.
- You stay in control. You can request access, correction, deletion, or opt-out of optional diagnostics at any time.
What "Local Processing" Means
All PDF and image operations (for example convert, merge, split, rearrange, compress, unlock with a known password, metadata clean) run on your machine. File contents remain on your device unless you choose to share them (for example when contacting support with sample files).
Information We Do Not Collect
- File contents, page thumbnails, or image previews from your device.
- Content-derived analytics or training data.
- Keystroke, clipboard, or screen data.
Information We May Collect
Purchase & Licensing
We may receive your name, email, transaction ID, and license key details from our payment provider (for example Stripe, Paddle, or similar). We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
App Diagnostics (Optional)
If enabled, we collect crash logs, anonymized error codes, OS version, app version, and device model class to troubleshoot issues. You can disable diagnostics in the app at any time.
Website Analytics (Limited)
We may use privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics (using cookies or local storage) to understand basic site usage. We do not use cross-site tracking.
Support Communications
When you contact us, we collect the messages you send (and any files you voluntarily attach) plus contact information so we can reply.
How We Use Your Information
- Provide and activate your license; verify eligibility for updates.
- Diagnose and fix bugs; improve performance and usability.
- Respond to inquiries and provide customer support.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
Legal Bases (GDPR)
- Contract: to provide the app, licensing, and updates.
- Legitimate Interests: to secure, maintain, and improve File Studio.
- Consent: for optional diagnostics and certain cookies/marketing (when applicable).
- Legal Obligation: for tax, accounting, and regulatory compliance.
Sharing & Disclosure
We share information only with:
- Service providers (for example payment processors, crash/analytics vendors) under confidentiality obligations.
- Legal or compliance recipients when required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights and safety.
- Business transfer partners if we undergo a merger, acquisition, or asset sale (we'll notify you where required).
We do not sell or rent personal data.
Data Retention
- Licensing and transaction records: retained as long as needed for our legitimate business and legal obligations.
- Diagnostics: retained for a limited period, then deleted or anonymized.
- Support emails: retained for support history, then deleted upon request unless we are legally required to keep them.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the risk (for example encryption in transit, access controls, least-privilege). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; use File Studio at your discretion.
Your Rights
Depending on your region (for example EEA/UK/California), you may have rights to:
- Access, correct, or delete personal data.
- Object to or restrict processing; request data portability.
- Opt-out of diagnostics and certain cookies.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
File Studio is not directed to children under 13 (or the age of digital consent where you live). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
International Transfers
If we transfer data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards (for example Standard Contractual Clauses) as required by law.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on our website. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
